Silica fume... what is it?

Silica fume is a mineral admixture, composed of submicron particles of silicon dioxide, manufactured as a co-product from the production of silicon and ferrosilicon metal. When added to concrete, silica fume acts as both a filler, improving the physical structure by occupying the spaces between the cement particles and as a 'pozzolan,' reacting chemically to impart far greater strength and durability to concrete. Bridge construction, marine structures, parking structures, water supply and sewage facilities all benefit from the use of microsilica (silica fume). The special properties of microsilica concrete give benefits in fresh concrete properties, so rheology improvements give benefits for concrete pumping and stability of the concrete mix. Special concretes like high strength concrete, light weight concrete (LWC, LWAC), shotcrete and low permeability concretes are better made with microsilica

Our silica fume powder is gray  color, and is packaging big-bag option. We sell densified and undensified microsilica. Silica fume in accordance with international standards.

The Oresund Bridge is 1092 metre long with a main span of 490 metre. The pylons are 203.5 metre tall. Silica fume was used for the entire Oresund Fixed Link Project.
